Week 4 Using the ASSURE Model of Lesson Planning

This week we learned to utilize the assure model to make our lesson plans and the A B C D's of objectives.

We also took notes electronically. Here's what I know about this model.

Assure Lesson planning.

The curriculum is a guideline.
Specific objectives should be formulated by the teachers. By looking  at the content and thinking of what the students need to learn, objectives can be formulated.

Instead of "students should be able to learn" at the objective section, we use "will". AT THE END OF THE LESSON STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO.

Benjamin bloom taxonomy of learning objectives: (KSA) Knowledge---cognitive aspect  Skills--Psychomoto aspect  Attitudes-- affective aspect. he is saying that we need to cater for all areas of the learner.

Identify the 6 levels of the Bloom's Taxonomy(Cognitive domains)
:

1.Remembering-list

2.Understanding- summarize
3.Applying - organizing, classify, demonstrate, solve
4.Analysing ---Distinguish, analyze
5.Evaluating-- Argue, decide
6.Creating-- Design, invent,plan

Differentiate between the old and the new version of the taxonomy.
In the old version, words were written in nouns. The new version had them as actions. (Evaluation >>> Evaluating)

Evaluation was 6th in the old version. In the new version, evaluating is on the 5th level and creating at the 6th.

Discuss the importance of using Bloom's taxonomy while planning for instruction:
Lesson plans are tailored according to the level of the students.
caters for the different learning styles of students.

Videos used in today's class are used as instructional tools.
Identify one way of writing objectives:

1.Start with the stem sentence--- 'after completing this module you will be able to'

2. Determine the learning outcome--  how will i be able to tell that they master it. what can they do to show me they learnt

3.Select the appropriate level and verb from the Bloom's wheel

4.write the verb and the learning outcome into a statement  that when combined with the stem forms a complete sentence

2 ways of explaining Learning outcomes:
1.  being used in the unit plan in terms of what we generally expect students to know after the module. (a.k.a general objectives) by the end of the term/module

2.learning outcomes are generally what the students are intended to learn by the end of any learning period.(a.k.a specific objectives) by the end of the lesson/session

There are specific, educational and learning objectives.
