Week 2 Introduction to the Internet and Issues in Media & Technology
What else did we learn about the internet?
Today we participated in Cooperative learning group activities. Groups researched and presented information on the following:
- Netiquette, Internet and the world wide web
- Digital natives vs digital immigrant, asynchronous vs synchronous communication
- Google search, advanced search and bookmarking
- Creative commons, open educational resources & fairuse
- Viruses, malware & antivirus
Task 1: To Create a Bookmark
Steps:
- Open the page you would like to bookmark
- Locate and click on the star located at the end of the link in your browser
- Fill in the necessary information; name of the page and th folder iin which you would like it to be saved.
- Select 'Bookmark page'
To find the page you bookmarked:
- Locate and select the three dots in the top right hand corner of the page
- Select 'Bookmarks' from the drop down menu
- Select the folder in which you saved the page
- Search for the name you attached to the page
- Select it
Task 2: Conduct a Google Search
Steps:
- Type 'google' in the browser
- Press 'enter' on your keyboard
- Select 'Google' from the list of results
- Type in whatever you would like to find information on
- Select the search icon
Task 3: Conduct an Advanced Search
Steps:
- Type and search 'Advanced search' in google search engine
- Select 'Advanced search' from the list of results
- Type in your search topic and fill in and select the various information necessary to get your specific results.
- Select search
Task 4: To Create a Gmail Signature
Steps:
- Open your gmail account
- Go to settings
- Scroll down and select signature
- Type your signature in the box provided
I can utilize these methods in my classroom By using them to find information for my students and I could also teach them these skills to help make their research alot easier .
